I am looking for the same book! I remember my Dad reading it to my brother in the mid 70's.
In the book, they take a train to Hazelnut Hilltop - right?
I think they were squirrels?

The book you're looking for is The Animals' Train Ride. It is actually a Rand McNally book.

Not sure if this was a Little Golden Book. Does anyone remember the title of a children's book about Scoot and Skidaddle? They lived in (or visited) Hazelnut Hilltop and had an Aunt Tippy Toes.
