but was this the story of the steam shovel that dug a basement?
I remember it from Captain Kangaroo in the 50s. He dug and dug and then he didn't have a way out so he lived there and maybe he became a steam generator for the school.

I am also looking for Digger Dan. My dad use to read it to my 2 sons and now my first grandchild is on the way and I would like to replace that book for my grandchildren.
