I am looking for the title and a copy of one my favorites and all I can recall is a pipesmoking dog as the main character and a boy (Crispin Crispins, I think) who the dog befriended. I believe Garth Williams was the illustrator. The dog had a wonderful 2-story house, wore overalls, and a shaggy straw hat. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

It is titled 'Mister Dog'.

Actually, the name is Crispin's Crispian. I had the book when I was 5 or 6 or so. It was a favorite. It's actually a remarkable story about life, as it emphasizes to any kid reading it that we're all our own person. The illustrations were great, too.

Anyone can email me if you'd like:

It IS Mister Dog Razz I have been looking for this book for quite awhile -- but I was remembering it as Crispin's Crispin. I loved this book as a child. I can't wait to get a copy for my little nephew.

Actually, the dog's name was Crispin's Crispin (because he belonged to himself) I don't know if the boy was given a name or not.
